You're A Genie??

I didn't want to go to the trouble of drawing the usual clothes of genies. Maybe this is a modern genie!

BTW, the squeak in the drop panel was him rubbing on the garden hose.

Is That Allowed?

I had a hard time getting the top of the kite to actually be symmetrical. In fact, the kite in the middle panel seems to have more asymmetry (lack of symmetry) than symmetry.

What The Heck Is He DOING?!

I was thinking, what if Charlie was only silly when Moe was around? And then this strip happened.

His Singing is WAY Off-Key.

That wavy line under Charlie's singing indicates that his singing is off-key.

May Will

I got this idea at the end of last school year, and it's been sitting in my sketchbook ever since. Now that another school year has started, I thought, well, no need to put it off any longer! But my original sketch was just the main six panels. I needed to think of something that Mike was correcting. (I think he's reaching too high in the first panel of the second row.)

The Almanac of Nermia: The Field Trip of the Dusk Rider Slideshow - Part 5 of 7

No, Merfish are Not Chopped Liver.

I figured I've drawn the brown-haired, green-tailed mermaid quite a lot, so I decided to use a different color scheme with the mermaid in this panel. This would probably indicate that Moe is secret friends with the whole ocean. Wow, I wonder what that feels like?

WHO RIPPED THE PANEL?!

The title is a repeated title of WHO RIPPED THE LAST PANEL?! My original sketch was on a whole piece of paper (so the line was "I don't think splitting the page in half..."), vertically, so that the line went horizontally. But, obviously, that didn't work with the format of this strip, so I had to make the rip vertical. And unlike the strip of the original title, this is not an actual rip. I just drew an oddly jagged line on the right edge of the first panel, and then replicated it with the left edge of the second panel.

I like Bubbles's pose in the right half of the rip.

So They Finally Reformed.

I was originally going to have the oath (yes, that's the club's oath) rhyme, but I couldn't find a rhyme for the second line, so I decided not to let it rhyme. Look at their hand sign when they're reciting the oath. It's the "live long and prosper" sign from Star Trek. Sure it looks a bit odd, but that's because the characters have four fingers on each hand (not five).

THAT'S Not An Insult!

The title is a repeated title of yesterday's THAT'S Not A Place! Apparently, Moe thinks "little brother" is an insult. Maybe it sounds like Julia is being condescending.

Even More Red Paint

I was thinking of having Moe actually get cut (like on the water fountain, or something). But like Sunday and Tuesday, that wasn't as funny as making a reference to more red paint.

My Mind's Drawing a Blank

If you could see the whole of the paper I drew this on, you'd see that I was considering having Moe sweat in the second panel.

Who's Mr. Johnson?

Elisha's line in the second panel was originally something that really actually made me think, "No, that's too leading. It hints that he actually stinks." So I whited out her line and made it more ambiguous.

9/8/10

Moe's Friend, Mike

I wonder if the "victim" of the accident was Tom again (he was mentioned in yesterday's strip)?

9/7/10

The First Day Of School! ... Boo!

The original idea for this strip came out when I thought of Moe saying something about a grave and relating it to school, and it just sort of evolved into this strip. Michelle's last line was originally "Moe, he was FAKING!" But, like Sunday's strip, that's not as funny as this is, in my opinion. So it was necessary to white it out and re-write the punch line.

9/6/10

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That thing in the last panel is not a mustache kind of thing. It's Moe's mouth.

9/5/10

Moe's Getting Ready For School

At first I decided that Moe's last line would be "three more months to get psyched." But then, as I was just about to draw this strip, I had the inspiration to have him say "a longer summer." It worked, and was certainly funnier.

Pull! Release!

I was thinking, what if Merlin didn't know that he was doing that reaction? That maybe he didn't even remember doing that reaction at all? But I thought, nah, this should be a stand-alone strip.

The Almanac of Nermia: The Field Trip of the Dusk Rider- Part 3 of 7

Proven!

Charlie's comment in the second panel, combined with Julia's line in the first, indicates that Julia is still 15.
