Wow, That's A Big Burden.

This is a reference to a previous Moe's Secret Friends strip, where I hinted that, since the mermaid Moe was visiting was not Maren, he might be secret friends with the whole oceans.

Also, the lack of belly button is explained in a previous post, and the division line was drawn the same way it was here.

I thought of the grudge between merpeople and humans a while ago, and realized later on that this idea kind of explains why mermaids are so often seen trying to lure people to their deaths.

I Rest My Case

My brother did this less than two years ago. I thought it was too recent to classify as "long-lost," but then I looked through my other posts and saw some strips that were more recent than two years and were classified as "long-lost," so I decided to put that label here, too.

Her Color Scheme Kind of Clashes

I'm not sure if I'll be using Marina in the strip more; as the title says, her color scheme does clash a little bit.

Yay, It's IWMA Day! ...Or IS It?

Wow, the blog has been up for FIVE YEARS!!!

We'll post a list of updates we've done later today.

Ah, That's A Cool Breeze

This strip is "long-lost" because, like several other strips, I've had this idea for such a long time, and only recently remembered it.

How Can He Still Talk?

His head is just a pile of ashes now!

My dad came up with the idea for this strip. I said the line in the third panel, and he thought of the fourth panel.

Of course, this was not based on a real experience.

I just realized this is kind of like a Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin "sneezed and blew [his] head off."

That's Faster Than A 4x4x4!!!

17 seconds really is faster than the current world record for a 4x4x4, which as of now, is 34 seconds.

6/18/11

Mr. McWhat?

My original sketch just contained the last two panels. I added in the first one to show that he was being noisy, in case the strip was a little vague.

6/17/11

Double Meaning Time!

Here's the double meaning: she means "suck" as in A) she doesn't like, and B) they SUCK blood.

He Really Doesn't Need Permission To Ask That! ...Does He?

I've had this punchline in my head for years. I rediscovered it very recently, and thought I'd better put it in a strip before I forgot it again. So I thought of a premise that would prompt Moe to say this. I wanted to do something with Thidwick and his blanket, which I hadn't done in a while.

6/14/11

Yeah, How DOES He Know That?

The past two "Moe's secret friends" strips have the division lines between human and fish in a straight line. Yet in all the other mermaid/merman pictures I've seen, the division line is at a bit of an angle. So I tried to replicate that angle here. I drew the body first, then I drew a blue line where the division line would be. Then I drew the scales under that line, and then erased the blue line. (This was before I colored the strip, of course.)

...So What Is It?

It took me a little while to think of a premise that would make Julia say this. Since it was the day after another BCS (Body Conjoiner/Swapper) strip, I thought, why not?

Happy 1600th Post, I.W.M.A.!

6/12/11

Ooh, He's Busted

I'm really not sure how I got the idea to do this strip.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

The title is almost a repeated title of Thud.

6/9/11

Well, Hello, Mrs. Hypocrite!

The title is a repeated title of Well, Hello, Mr. Hypocrite!, the Parenting Tip where Michelle said to "NEVER be a hypocrite."

6/8/11

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, She Fainted Again

The title is a repeated title of Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, She Fainted, the end of this year's Feb-Mar story.

6/7/11

I Wonder What Happened to His Ball?

It took me a little while for me to think of an opening that would end up with Bob meowing and hissing at Bob. I knew I wanted him to forget that he couldn't talk. The dialogue in the second panel took several reworkings to get right.

6/6/11

That Really Isn't That Complicated

Notice the lack of anything in this mermaid? There's no belly button. Even though I showed a belly button in one of my recent Moe's Secret Friends strip, I realized that merpeople have the lower body of a fish. So they must lay eggs, therefore, they would not need belly buttons.

The mermaid in today's strip is the one shown in this strip. And I did the ponytail just to show that not all mermaids' hair is free-flowing.

Morning Hair Varies

After I drew this, I figured that I should have mixed up the pattern of Moe's dots, but I just thought "No, that wouldn't be very noticeable."

Have you noticed that, when I want two panels to be disconnected, sometimes I draw a thick black line between them, and other times I outline an entire panel with a thick black line? That has to do with how many panels are between the disconnection. If one has more than the other, then I outline the panel with the thick line. If they have the same number of panels, like this one, then I put a single line between them.

Take It Back, I Say!!

When I first drew this, I thought it felt a little odd to be drawing a humanoid upper body saying "my fin." But then I thought, this is under the ocean, so it's probably said a lot amongst the fish and merpeople.

I love it when Bubbles, instead of clenching his fists, clenches his toes.

In the past, I only drew a few scales on the mermaids' tails. But since their redesign, I draw in all the scales. Also, if you're wondering why Gwendolyn does not have the redesign, it's because in the aforementioned redesign strip, Gwendolyn swam past, and she still had the old fashion design.
