Thud

Can you believe I'm almost up to my 300th post? Neither can I. Well, here we go...

In the original panels:

Panel 1: Moe's eyes weren't pointing in different directions, and his leg wasn't on the floor. Neither was the other one. (Ha ha ha!)
Panel 2: Moe wasn't lying down, due to the fall. Apparently, he had landed on his feet. The sign, bubble, and panel didn't have shadows.
Panel 3: We couldn't see the floor.
All: The floor was complete lines, whereas here there are spaces between it and another object, and Moe was wearing his pajamas without dots. That was because I hadn't created the ones WITH the dots yet. Also, there weren't any shadows.

He DOES Have A Neck!

Sorry about the lack of post.

4/16/07

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Man, the background in panel 3 is almost pure white! The original scream in the first version was, "ARRGH!" I changed it, for some reason.

The Beginning of Some of my Old Strips

So, most of these strips up until September (some of the Sunday ones aren't the ones I'm talking about) actually originated in Moe when it was a pre-pre comic. I edited it, of course, to meet the blog's needs. The original strip had just 4 panels.

Panel 1: Moe is asleep with 4 teddy bears next to him. The clock is ticking.
Panel 2: Moe sits up and yawns.
Panel 3: Moe turns around suddenly and we can see a ! over his head.
Panel 4: Moe looks at us, and says, "My blanket's gone again!" or something like that.

So, this is one of my first instance of inanimate objects coming to life. The first was where Thidwick was about to smash the Skateboard Racetrack in the Nermia story. Maybe I could make that some sort of running gag.

4/13/07

How is that Possib---/\/\/\---Time to go.

By the way, the ---/\/\/\--- stuff in the title is supposed to be static. The original title was going to be:

How is that possible? Time to go.

...but Blogger wouldn't allow that many spaces. And if you don't think that's very long, you should see the HTML code for it. So, by the way, this was the strip that was originally going to be on this date, but I switched dates. For more information, click "this date."

4/12/07

That's 4 Pairs!!

This came from a night with my mom and dad. I decided, hmm, maybe I'll change into socks first. Then I got the idea. At first I thought Moe's clothes would be socks too, but I decided, nah. I had to do a blue line for Moe in panel 3. A single pair is on his...

Head and nose.
Ears.
Hands.
Feet.

The description for my calendar schedule for this strip was, "Moe changes into socks...a lot of socks!"

4/11/07

Pop!

In my original sketch, panels 1 and 2 were combined into 1, so the strip had its normal number of panels.

Dad's Ears are 100% Rubber

I like these posts with titles like, "This Dad is 100% Rubber" or "These Ears are 100% Rubber...again." It all started with "These Ears are 100% Rubber," which, as a little goof, was what I originally typed for the title of this post. I didn't want any posts to have the same name, so if I want the same title, I'll add a "2" or an "again" in it, or something else that has to do with the title. (Do I have this thing for links, or what?)

Disinfectant...only $19.95. See the I Want Moe Attention store for more details.

Look at the pictures on the wall. Hey, Moe has a Toshiba-Laptop computer! That is because their old computer got destroyed in a thunderstorm. Do you think it will work? Well, check out our new product Moe is using and find out:
It does! But now it's free.

Splish, Splash, I Was Taking A Bath...in Just a Cup Of Water!

Almost everything in the "Silliness" label comes from my dad, like this strip, except for the fainting and the glass of water spilling.

These Ears are 100% Rubber...Again

This came from just doodling early in the morning. For no reason, I happened to draw Merlin whacking his ear with his other ear. Then I came up with this strip. But, it took me a little while to figure out if he was going to do it with his hand or his other ear. Now I'm beginning to think he did it with his other ear to make the other ear quiet down, or as punishment for that ear for telling the other ear that there really was dragons, or both. In my original sketch, Merlin was thinking all of his lines. I changed most of them to talking, since Merlin couldn't talk when I sketched this strip. Goof: The black outline of the two panels without borders is cool, but it extends into half of the orange panel.

4/6/07

Talking Lesson #97...He Succeeded!!

I can't believe it. Merlin talked when he wasn't trying to. I did that "A-HA!" thing in panel 3 last. That means Merlin's only going to talk for about 1 day? Well, that's 365% of a year, isn't it? So Merlin finally talked. And in only 97 lessons! That's gotta be a world record! I owe it all (and so does Moe) to our first-ever published book:

4/5/07

Talking Lesson #2

I liked drawing the floating Moe heads in panel 2. Each word was originally going to be a separate panel, with all of Moe. Then it would have been 7 panels! I like Merlin's bodies in panel 2. He's getting hypnotized or dizzy or something like that, and his ear is getting all twisted up.

4/4/07

Talking Lesson #1

The moral of this strip is: Never expect someone to show you or do something that it's learning how to do, but just barely started. The original dialogue for panel 2 was, "Do I really have to? I don't even know how!" It's been a long time since I saw Moe faint. I had to count up the seconds and say the dialogue out loud so I could do the (almost) exact number of seconds it was when Merlin said it.

Moe Predicted Correctly; Bed Monster DID Reveal His Love for Something!

Wow, lots of things this week are things from Moe Predicts! That music in panel 2 is hand-drawn, just like Charles Schulz does it, and it's my own song. I made it last year...I call it "The Way to Go." It took me lots of thickening to get the treble clef to look right. Try to play this on your piano. Here's the key:
e = eighth note; E = quarter note, E = half note, E = third note; E = whole note; + = blend the notes it is between together. All Cs are middle Cs.

Moe Predicted Correctly; The Enemy DID Reveal His Name!

The dialogue, starting with the words "My name is Jocken Fred," are supposed to be heard in the rhythm of "We All Sing With the Same Voice." I did the sketching out for this months and months ago. But my calendar for 2006 was all filled up, and I was in the progress of planning out January's strips this year, but for some reason, I decided, "Nah, I'll wait until a little bit later." Finally, I found a spot. This was the day I got another new pen. I didn't want to waste too much space, so I drew a picture of Moe and Merlin in the background. And, look at it again in all three panels...it changes! Another extra joke! It also almost follows the same joke of the main strip, because in the last panel picture, Merlin ends up "pow-pow-powing" Moe. And, one more thing. Moe has black pants on, just like the enemy. Do you suppose his shirt is red, too? Because Jocken Fred's shirt is.

Nail In The Morning 2

By the way, for those of you who didn't see the blog yesterday, go see it...

I finally got the scanner fixed, but I still haven't had a chance to update yesterday's strip. I usually try to do a new background each time Moe steps on the nail(s).

3/31/07

Finally, It's Fixed!

I finally found the time to fix this strip. But, since it is April Fool's Day-related, it's a little too late. Did you miss it? You can see the original strip, or you can go a step further, highlight the following text up to the word "Label," and view the selection source, if you can. It will reveal the text when this was on April Fool's Day. But, wait until you see next year's April Fool's joke...

End of the Story

Okay, my apologies to those who have already looked at the blog and did not see today's strip. The reason was because I didn't have enough time to do it last night, and I forgot to do it after my breakfast, so I've been trying to do it as fast as possible. All right, enough apologies. On with the strip...

Panels 1 and 3 have every single character. Oops, instead of 4:00, it looks like Y:00. Well, back to the normal strip tomorrow.

3/29/07

T Minus Ten Minutes and Counting...Nine...Eight...

Did you know that I was originally going to have it be 3:00? Yup, until I thought that the story started out at 3:18, and went through 4:18, so I thought I'd better make it 5:00, but I'd better make sure. When I saw the strip...good...it actually started out at 2:18. Tomorrow's the end of the story. But, where are Moe's pockets in panel 1? I forgot to put the "MEH!" over The Cheat in panel 1, because I didn't know that it exclaimed "MEH!" when kicked or struck.

3/28/07

To: Brennan
From: Moe

Goofs: Brennan's "What is this?" in panel 1 looks like he's saying it. The Cheat is actually one of the characters on the Homestar Runner website, and there really is a similar plush The Cheat toy, and it is in fact called Kick The Cheat.

3/27/07

Shading On Mama

GOOFS
  • Brennan's shoes pop off in panel 2, but they are not anywhere in panel 3. Maybe Mama tool them in 0.00000000000000000000000000001 of an instant.

3/26/07

Ahh, So THAT'S The Surprise!

Well, woo-hoo! Happy One-st Bee-Day! So, I guess I was lying when I said this. There are things hanging out from the top of the slide! Those are Bed Monster's tentacles. But where's the banner? I was originally going to think they didn't have time and they just left it on the ground, but I forgot to draw it. So where do you think it it?

Setting Up for...Something...

Hmm, what do you think everybody is up to? If Mama and Brennan are coming, they must hurry up on the banners! Bed Monster and Thidwick appear twice. Nine of the eleven main characters appear in this strip! Do you think there's ever going to be a strip where all eleven appear? Tomorrow we'll find the "big surprise" promised here! This is the last strip with the shading, just so you know.

3/24/07

Recap

But, Moe got pleased with Brennan a little to late; this is the last Sunday strip of the story. I had to go through a bunch of strips to remember the colors of everything, and also to find recap parts. Most of these strips are from Sunday strips. Mama's heads are colored in in panel 8 have black lines in them are because those two are from daily strips, even though I wasn't shading her head when they were published on the blog. Moe's reaction to the recap is a reference to the first couple Sunday strips. (Just so you know, the words "couple," "Sunday," and "strips" are all separate links.)

3/23/07

Two Hours Later...

He seems delighted! Why do you think Julia's angry in panel 2? So, how are my perspectives? Pretty nice, huh? What do you think she was about to put on?

3/22/07

How Long is This Going to Take?

An impression by a bed monster that looks like an octopus.
This is the first time somebody's mentioned Bed Monster only by his first name (Bed).

3/21/07

Racing Inside

Just a little louder, Moe.
Did you notice anything peculiar about panels 2 and 3...besides the fact that Moe's as tall as Julia, Mom, Dad, and the enemy, who are usually taller than him? The order that the characters are organized are tallest in back, shortest in front. That way, Moe can see everybody. If everybody was in the gang, here's how it would probably be:

Julia Mom Dad Enemy Mama
Moe Thidwick
Bob Bed Monster Merlin Brennan

If you think somebody should be in a different row, review their character pages (on the sidebar of the main page).

3/20/07

His Legs Wobble

Hurry up, Moe, or they'll see you!
I rarely do this, but I laughed as I drew Moe in the last panel. I wonder what Thidwick and Bob are doing? Since this, this, and this, I've been starting to do more perspectives in the strips. Panel 1 is supposed to be an above view of Thidwick and Bob, and panels 2 and 3 are supposed to be Bob's point of view. Pretty soon, I'll do different perspectives in each panel!

3/19/07

Scrambling Up the Tree

This must be directly after yesterday's strip, because Julia is still drawing on the sidewalk. Uh-oh, they're emerging from the house!! The enemy in panel 2 was accidentally Thidwick when I drew it, and he didn't find him yet. There's no border around panel 2, to give the impression that it lasted forever. A nose, one of Bed Monster's tentacles, and one of Merlin's ears are sticking out from the tree. Even Mama seems to know what they're doing! Bed Monster's face is all scrunched up in panel 4. I counted the tentacles to make sure I drew the right number. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...

It's Time...for What?

Here's a bit of trivia for ya: People have five fingers, yet they usually draw their cartoons with four. Here it is exactly the opposite: Julia has four fingers, yet she draws her cartoons with five. What do you think it's time for?

3/17/07

This Dad is 100% Rubber

The big X covering "Moe" in panel 1 is actually drawn by my colored pencils I use to color the strips with. Did you know that the colors in the panels are actually the same as the ones in here? Well, they are! In panel 10, one of Dad's legs and arms are mixed up! I did that on purpose. If the cloud had a face, then it would look kind of determined in panel 12. His tongue would be hanging out, and his eyes would look mad, yet they would be looking down.

3/16/07

Why DID Moe Ask Mom to Jump?

Merlin's ears look all jaggy, don't they? That's because I forgot to draw them, and I tried to draw them in Photoshop. I did the shading in Photoshop too. Sorry for the almost-lack of shading, but I had to fulfill a...(ahem)..."promise" from one of my viewers.

3/15/07

Jus' a Secnd, I Need ta Finish Ma Meyal?

Why do you think there isn't time? He's only half done with his meal! Moe must have filled up Merlin's dish at the same time Brennan found Mama (the real one). And, for those of you who can't understand (and if you can't, you're most likely a kid) what Merlin said, he said, "Just a second, I need to finish my meal." How does Merlin still think, and still make it sound like he has his mouth full?

3/14/07

Mr. Silhouette

I don't think the "Hey, excuse me," thing in panel 1 was necessary now.

GOOFS
  • The thumbs of "Mr. Silhouette" are on the wrong side of his hands in panel 2.
    • In panel 3, the thumb that is closer to us has been replaced, but the one behind his head is still misplaced.

3/13/07

This is Where it Begins to Get Dramatic

Man, these are getting better and better! Ahh, so his name is "Bed Monster." That means I've taken out the "the" in his name on the sidebar and the post. Actually, that was done a couple of minutes after this post was posted. And, I'll bet you didn't know this, but Moe's shadow on the bush is actually a silhouette of the way I drew him when I first started the Moe strip.

3/12/07

Here we Go Again...

The word "sooner" was originally misspelled as "sonner." Here's the translation in panel 3:

But don't worry, you'll be ready sooner or later. Now, I'm not quite sure when you WILL be ready, but I'm going to guess it's going to be pretty soon. Now, how soon? I am not quite sure. So, let's just keep going and going and going until we get home. Now, that may be a little while, because Moe's house is pretty big. Of course, I don't know why the heck they even MADE it that way, but it was a pretty stupid idea.

I know the last part seems like "...even MADE it that way! It..."

The Secrets are the Reason

Finally, I found a way to get the dark skin on Mama right. It is similar to Franklin's way.

3/10/07

Is That...?

I'm not sure the thing with the MA-MA in panel 11 was a very good idea now. By the way, he thought it was fake. That's why he screamed. And, "panels 8 and 9" are, like connected with the talk bubble again, like they were in one Christmas strip. So, like I said there, there's probably 11 and a half panels.

3/9/07

Hey, Her Mouth Talks!!

So now you know why her mouth was open in panel 1. So it would look like she's talking in panel 3. But how does her head suddenly get flipped horizontally? Hmm...

3/8/07

→ ↑ ↓ ↔ ← Jeez, WHICH WAY?!

Aghh, it was fake again. Why do you think there are so many fake mamas around? And that "to be continued" thing is practically floating! In the panel 3, if Brennan were standing, he'd be almost as tall as Mom!

GOOF

3/7/07

Is That Mama This Time?

The lines of |||||||||||||||||||||||||||| right after the first two are almost the same to the Tooth Fairy's line, "Boy, that kid's teeth will make a great addition to my collection." Go ahead; look at each |||| and say each word as you do; the longer words have more of the |, and the shorter ones have less of the |. What do YOU think she said?

A HUGE House

I'm posting at 8:00 this morning because I forgot to do it last night (Please, please, NEVER look at it before you go to bed, unless you go to bed sometime after 12:00 midnight). Anyway, on with the strip...

I think I drew one too many faces on that house. How does Brennan fit in that bed?! Wow. That house IS huge! They probably have a separate room for each person to sleep in (seven, including the enemy and the bed monster), like, 4 bathrooms, and, above all that, it must be, like, six stories tall!

3/5/07

← THIS WAY

Did you notice that Moe's thought bubble in panel 1 has an arrow coming out of it? And that "X" thing in panel 3 is supposed to be some sort of buzzer when you get an answer wrong in some sort of game show.

Hey, She's Just Kidding!! Ugh...

Uh oh, here goes the "this way" thing again!

3/3/07

He Found Mama...or Did He?

So, now we see the big surprise: THAT'S NOT MAMA! This is the first Sunday strip I've ever made to have a white panel and a gray panel. A lot of this strip was drawn with my substitute pen.

GOOFS
  • The arm keeps changing spots and getting shorter in panels 10-12.
  • The writing keeps changing spots in the same panels.

FIXED GOOFS
  • The shirt was actually flat in panel 10, so the part that Brennan holds wasn't there. It was just like it is in panel 9. This was fixed before coloring, which explains why the red gets lighter on the part where Brennan holds it.

3/2/07

Is That What I Think It Is?...

Wow, what a surprise! He found Mama! What do you think is going to happen tomorrow?

3/1/07

Oh, Finally! A Change in Direction!

Hey, Moe's Mom knows how to knit! You know what that means? I've updated the Introducing Mom post for this, and I've also added a link to it.
