A Sea of Hair

Loosely translated, the Spanish dialogue reads, "Where did all this hair come from?!"

That's a Huge Understatement

The main reason I put Merlin is the last panel is because I haven't drawn him for over a month.

1/26/11

Oh, Big Whoop

Originally, this was planning to be a one-time strip. But then the idea just sort of mushroomed and filled up the rest of the week.

1/25/11

Four Months Off

I was wondering the same thing once - from personal experience.

Moe's Not A Soldier!

The title is a repeated title of Moe's Not A Servant!

Is There An "Alive Sea?"

My brother came up with this strip (mostly).

1/22/11

Using Those To Hide Is Cheating!!

My first punch line of the strip was actually more like the title of this post. Julia's expression in the first panel looks like she's playing this game against her will.

1/21/11

Is There Such A Thing As A Good Threat?

My brother came up with this strip - word-for-word (I added Moe's smile in the last panel, but that's not a word, so technically I'm right).

Earthlings are the Odd Ones

It took me a little while to think of an opening line for Charlie that would make the alien say what it says in the first panel.

1/19/11

Wrestle

I was originally going to put legs on the alien, but then I realized they'd be useless, since Uranus is a gas giant and doesn't have any solid ground.

Look For Subtlety...

There are several subtle things I put in this strip. For example, Moe seems to be ignoring the fact that Charlie is talking to Julia. So I shifted the frame in the third panel to remove Julia from our view. Also, I've noticed that, when parents do what I've shown Charlie doing here, the kids seem to portray them as being closer than they are. So in Charlie's experience, he's his real distance. In Moe's experience, though, I scooted the monster closer to Moe. Then there's the talk bubbles. In the adults' experience, Charlie's talk bubble overlaps Moe's. But in the kids' experience, Moe's talk bubble overlaps Charlie's. Can you think of any other subtle things I added?

How Did He Get There?

This is the fourth time I have researched actual photos of animals to draw a cartoon animal. The first three times were for the quick brown fox, Nerm, and Nemo. I've noticed that, each successive time I draw the latter two, they seem to get more and more cartoony–I remove some things, I move some things, I make subtle changes, etc. Each link above shows the character's first appearance after I sketch the real animal.

Never Assume

It took me a little while to think of what Moe would be doing that could be assumed as something different.

Yay, Another Parenting Tip!

I haven't done any Parenting Tips since July!

1/4/11

...Then You WOULD Be Crazy

The original punchline was "Now maybe if it were SUMMER..."

Another Annoying Beginning

If you compare this Moerlin Transformation strip with the last one, you'll see that I thinned Moerlin in the panel before the punch line quite a bit.

Charlie Really IS Insane!

Happy 1-1-11, everyone! Like always (except 2009), new year, new font!

The title is a repeated title of Charlie Is Insane.

I think Charlie in the third panel is the craziest drawing of him I have ever done.
